About the artist

Paul Schuss (b. July 23, 1948, in Münzkirchen, Austria) is a French painter whose work draws on the lyrical tradition of the École de Paris and the introspective, visionary impulses of La Jeune Peinture. His familial roots connect him to both Italian and Austrian nobility, descending from the Cani della Scala family of Verona and the von Prack von Asch line of Tyrol—an echo of Europe's layered cultural heritage, which resonates deeply through his art.

Having moved to France in infancy, Schuss grew up amidst a rich blend of cultural influences. Largely self-taught yet shaped by early mentorship, he developed a highly personal visual language across a wide range of techniques: tempera, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, ink washes, mixed media, and lithography (notably at the Atelier Mourlot in Paris). His compositions often convey an inner luminosity and symbolic depth, shaped by his lifelong fascination with the transformative power of light and nature.

Schuss's work has been exhibited across Europe, Japan, and the United States, with notable solo and group shows in Paris, Vienna, Osaka, London, New York, and Monaco. His paintings and lithographs form part of major public and private collections around the world.

Now based in Burgundy, in the heart of the French countryside, Schuss continues to create surrounded by nature and history. His studio is a place of quiet exploration, where spiritual memory, imaginative vision, and technical mastery come together in a lifetime of artistic dedication.
